HARTINGTON – The Hartington- Newcastle Wildcat basketball team opened the 2024 portion of the schedule with a couple of losses to Winside, 37-35 on Jan. 5, and Bloomfield, 48-42 on Jan. 2.

PENDER – The Wynot Blue Devils travelled to Pender to do battle with the Pendragons on Friday night in what was predicted to be a tightly contested matchup. The game would end up that way but it did not go as scripted. Wynot would struggle mightly In the first half but rallied in the second half to make a game of it. The game did go down to the wire with Pender earning the 35-33 win.

HARTINGTON – The Monday-Tuesday storm this week forced school officials to rearrange some of the varsity sports schedules.

LAUREL – The Cedar Catholic Trojans hit the road for a couple of wins to open the 2024 portion of the season and won a couple of games after dropping the third game of the campaign in the finals of the Wayne tournament. The two wins improved the Trojans season tally to 8-3 with three big games on the horizon.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington- Newcastle Lady Wildcats added a couple of wins to the season over the past week to improve to 8-4 on the campaign.

LAUREL – The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan basketball team hit the road for a couple of games and completed a very successful week with a couple of wins as the Lady Trojans turned away Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Jan. 4, 63-49 and doubled Osmond/Randolph 54-27 Jan. 2 in Osmond.

WINSIDE – The Cedar Catholic wrestling team is still one of the hottest teams in Northeast Nebraska.

WAYNE - Cedar Catholic used a stingy defense to grab a lead over Winnebago here in the opening round of the Elkhorn Valley Bank Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Rice Auditorium.

WAYNE – Cedar Catholic got past Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in the semifinals before falling to Wayne in the finals here at Rice Auditorium in the 2023 Elkhorn Valley Bank Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout Dec. 29 and 30.

NEWMAN GROVE – These Cedar Catholic wrestlers don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

HUMPHREY – The Wynot Lady Blue Devils got back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon when they pulled away from the Humphrey St. Francis Lady Flyers 45-32.

Cedar Catholic’s Braeden Reifenrath goes up for the dunk during action against Winnebago in the first round of the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State College on Thursday. Cedar Catholic defeated Winnebago 71-49 to move on to the semi-finals where they knocked off Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. Wayne then ended Cedar’s title run in Saturday’s championship game. Cedar has a rematch with LCC this Thursday and will face Wayne again later this month.

WAYNE - After a semifinals loss to the eventual champion, Pender, the Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans earned third place in the Elkhorn Valley Bank Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout with a win over Plattsmouth on Dec. 30 here at Rice Auditorium.

HUMPHREY – The Wynot Blue Devils and the Crofton Warriors battled to determine the championship of the Humphrey St. Francis Holiday Tournament on Saturday night.

STANTON – The Hartington-Newcastle offense received a boost of confidence in the consolation finals of the Stanton Holiday Tournament here Dec. 29 as they turned away the host Mustangs 52-28 after dropping a tough-opening round match up with undefeated Lutheran High Northeast.

HARTINGTON – Hartington-Newcastle used a second-half performance to turn back Boyd County Dec. 19 3722 in Hartington.

WYNOT – The Wynot boys basketball team improved its season record to 6-1 as it took care of business Dec. 19 by dispatching the visitors from 0-4 Irene-Wakonda, S.D., by a final tally of 78-33.
