COLUMBUS — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan volleyball team dropped three matches in the Scotus Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Trojans were swept by Norfolk Catholic and Pierce and dropped a 2-1 match to Platteview to fall to 2-4 on the young season.
Cedar Catholic fell to 4-1 Norfolk Catholic, 26-24 and 25-17, before getting edged out by Platteview, 25-17, 14-25 and 26-24, then lost a match to the Lady Bluejays, 25-21 and 25-17.
In the match with Pierce, six Lady Trojans had at least two kills in the match, paced by Lauren Bernecker with three.
Brynn Bernecker, Anisten Wortmann, Katelyn Arens, Lyndsey Hamilton and Addison Walter each had a couple of winners.
Melayna McGregor had three ace serves and six set assists, Hamilton added four assists.
Wortmann, Arens, McGregor, and Walter each had a stuff at the net while McGregor added nine digs to her match.
After dropping the first set to Platteview, the Lady Trojans dominated the second set 25-15 then went down to the wire in the final set of the match before falling 26-24.
McGregor and Lauren Bernecker did the most damage on the Platteview side of the court with McGregor hammering nine winners and Bernecker sending down seven.
Hamilton registered a dozen set assists with McGregor adding six Hamilton also rifled a coupe of ace serves.
Lauren Bernecker also led Cedar Catholic defensively with 13 digs.
The Lady Trojans battled tough in the opening set with the Lady Knights in the opening round but eventually fell, 26-24.
Katelyn Arens had five kills in the match while Hamilton and McGregor had nine and seven assists respectively.
Addison Walter hit six winners. McGregor dug up 11 balls, McKinlee Lammers had 10 and successfully passed off 15 serves and Bailey Hochstein added five digs.
The road will not get any easier for the Lady Trojans as they were set to take on undefeated Crofton in a regular season best-of-fivesets match Sept. 10at the Werner Activities Center before competing in the Wakefield Invitational, Sept. 12 and 14.
