LINCOLN - More than 6,600 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

HARTINGTON – The public is invited for coffee and a book signing with children’s author, Charleen Meyer, at the Hartington Public Library, from 10-11 a.m., June 28. Meyer is the author of the “Sunflower Seed Caper,” along with eight other children’s books.

WAYNE – Wayne State College included 1,154 students on the dean’s list for exemplary academic achievement during the Spring 2024 semester. Students listed on the dean’s list are full-time undergraduate students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale for the semester. An asterisk (*) denotes a 4.0 GPA for the term.

HARTINGTON – All Cedar County residents are invited and encouraged to enter open class exhibits for the Cedar County Fair, July 18. Exhibit categories includes Horticulture, Fruits and Vegetables, Flowers, Domestic Science, Quilts, Photography, Needlework and Arts and Crafts for all ages.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington Post 4 American Legion Senior baseball team found itself down 8-0 after the first two innings and spent the rest of the night climbing back into the game before eventually falling, 9-7 to Battle Creek in Ralph Bishop League action here at Felber Park June 19.

WEST POINT – After swimming away from the competition in its first two meets of the summer campaign, the Hartington Dolphins swim team found itself a little short-handed at its meet in West Point.

HARTINGTON – After getting a forfeit from Arlington, the Hartington Post 4 Junior American Legion baseball team traveled to Plainview for the Plainview roundrobin wooden bat baseball tournament.

HARTINGTON - It’s been a long wait, but Hartington will finally host the State American Legion baseball tournament.

Last week Brooks Heine, 11, became one of the youngest golfers to ever record a hole-in-one at the Hartington golf course. He recorded the ace on the third hole on June 18 using a three wood. Miller Heine, and Trey Leise witnessed the shot. This marks the second hole-in-one of the season at the local golf course. Riley Sudbeck earned an ace earlier this year. Sudbeck also earned his ace on the third hole when he nailed the shot on May 12. Brooks is the son of Scott and Jennifer Heine.

RANDOLPH – Several Cedar County students were selected for Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute this summer.

HARTINGTON – Over 200 local students took part in the 2024 4-H Ag Innovators Experience - Protect the Plate Challenge through this past spring/ summer. This STEM-based activity challenges them to use their critical thinking skills to take part in solving real-world agriculture issues around food safety.

OGALLALA – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved staff recommendations for a 2025 mountain lion hunting season at its June 21 meeting in Ogallala.

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Homes were destroyed, roads were washed out, sinkholes opened up, a railroad bridge was swept away, and rescuers worked Sunday night into Monday morning to save people from rising floodwaters in the McCook Lake area of southeastern South Dakota.

NORFOLK – The Nebraska State Patrol led a search in Cedar County last week for a man wanted on a national warrant.

LINCOLN – Gov. Jim Pillen’s route to property tax reform could come through the State of Nebraska taking over all funding for K-12 schools instead of using local property taxes to pay a portion of the cost.
