WAYNE — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge ended a somewhat disappointing 2024 Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout here at Wayne High School on Dec. 30 with a 5752 loss to South Sioux City in the seventh-place game.

It marked the Bears fifth consecutive loss and left the Orange and Black at 4-5 on the young season after opening the 2024-25 campaign 4-0.

The Bears led 26-21 heading into the halftime locker room but but couldn’t recover from a disastrous third quarter after outscoring the Cardinals in three of the four periods.

South Sioux City posted 21 points in the third frame while LCC managed just five points, sending the teams into the final stanza with the Cardinals holding a healthy, 42-31 lead.

The Bears got it going in the final eight minutes, but couldn’t recover as the Cardinals held on for the win.

Gibson Roberts paced the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge offensive attack with 23 points on the afternoon. Cade Johnson tossed in 16.
