WAYNE — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears dropped a couple of games this past week to fall to 5-5 on the season with a 53-51 loss to Pierce in the third-place game of the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on Dec. 30 then opened 2025 with a 64-55 loss to Archbishop Bergan on Jan. 3.
The Lady Bears hit the road for Fremont to take on the Bergan Lady Knights and started the game strong taking a 16-8 lead into the second stanza.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge would only score five points in the second and the teams went to the halftime locker room with the Lady Bears clinging to a 21-19 lead.
The Lady Knights would grab the lead in the third quarter then outscore the Lady Bears 25-17 in the final eight minutes to post the nine-point win.
Rena Rasmussen poured in 23 points in the game including a 9-for-10 performance from the foul line.
Kaida Eriksen added 11 while Carlie Kvols and Lainey Schutte each chipped in eight.
Schutte grabbed nine rebounds and Rasmussen hauled in eight missed shots. Eriksen recorded three steals and Hattie McCorkindale had a couple of blocked shots to aid the defense.
In the third-place game of the shootout, Pierce outlasted Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in a very tight game that came down to the last seconds.
The Lady Bluejays led by four after the opening eight minutes, but the Lady Bears came back to even the game by the intermission.
Pierce went up by three heading into the final frame and LCC outscored the Lady Bluejays in the final period, but not by enough as Pierce took home the third-place trophy.
Kvols sparked the Lady Bears with 19 points including 5-for-8 from beyond the 3-point line. Rasmussen tossed in 13.
Rasmussen completed a double- double with 10 rebounds and Eriksen handed out four assists.
The Lady Bears were scheduled to take on Elkhorn Valley in Laurel on Jan. 7, in Greater Northeast Activities Conference action.
They will then head up to Hartington on Jan. 9 to take on Cedar Catholic at the Msgr. Werner Activities Center and a trip to take on Humphrey/Lindsay on Jan. 10.
