CROFTON – The annual emergence of mayflies at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area near Crofton means the insects soon will be plentiful near and around the lake as they swarm to lights from the marina, cabins, facilities and campers.

PLATTSMOUTH – Invasive zebra mussels recently were found in Beaver Lake, a private water body near Plattsmouth in eastern Nebraska.

NORFOLK – In 2022, in a proactive measure and in response to the acute drought that took a commanding grip in northeast Nebraska, the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District implemented restrictions on wells pumping more than 50 gallons per minute, until the drought decreases in intensity.

LINCOLN – Agricultural producers in Nebraska who have not yet completed their crop acreage reports after planting should make an appointment with their U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) service center as soon as possible ahead of the upcoming July 17 deadline.

Murder in a small town is always big news but a double homicide comes as a real shocker, especially when one of the victims is a prominent citizen.

COLERIDGE – The American Legion Post #114 and its Auxiliary Unit #114 held their monthly meetings June 5, at the Coleridge Community Building. The units jointly recited the Pledge of Allegiance. This evening four members of the Auxiliary were honored for their many years of membership: Carol Rae Hefner, 73 years; Janice Wilkerson, 71 years; Kay Hefner, 67 years; and Shirley Papenhausen was honored posthumously for 67 years of membership. Many members of their families were in attendance and a small reception was held.

HARTINGTON – The June 6 Clover Kid Camp hosted 46 Cedar County 4-H Clover Kids and 20 youth and adult volunteers at the Hartington Felber Park Shelter House for the annual Cedar County 4-H Clover Kid Camp. The event is sponsored by the Cedar County 4-H Council.

Annual event will offer something for everyone

LAUREL – A recent four-day trip to Washington D.C. provided 49 Laurel-Concord- Coleridge students, and 23 parents and teachers a first-hand account of America’s earliest beginnings as a country and nation.

HARTINGTON – More than 6,800 Cedar County residents received notices that their property values are changing in 2023.

WAYNE – Several area students were among the 1,183 students on the Wayne State College Dean’s List for exemplary academic achievement during the Spring 2023 semester.

BROOKINGS, S.D. – A Coleridge student was one of more than 3,000 students to be recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the spring 2023 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the Dean’s List.

LAUREL – The Laurel VFW Auxiliary Post 4504, held a meeting May 3.
