How are your pastures doing so far this year?

Are your pastures better off or worse than they were this time last year? How about the year before that? And before that? As humans, long term memory has never been a strong suit. Maybe you were able to answer a simple better or worse question 3-4 years out, but when we start getting more detailed in our analysis, answering gets even harder. Did the species present change in any way? How much difference was there in yield between years? Has any production been lost due to invasive species like spurge or cedar?

NRDs Encourage Well Owners to Address Concerns Early
NRDs Encourage Well Owners to Address Concerns Early

HARTINGTON – The region has been experiencing lower than average rainfall over the last several months and one heavy irrigation pumping season could result in significant declines in groundwater levels. Dry conditions lead to increased irrigation use, which puts increased pressure on the groundwater resources of the district, and potentially results in decreased groundwater recharge. It is important to keep in mind how pumping may affect other groundwater users. Conservation of water resources should be a high priority for all.
