1954: Bartling named champion pork producer

COLERIDGE — The 1949 Coleridge football team and fathers of the players were entertained at a banquet by mothers of the players at the Lutheran chuch parlors Tuesday evening, Nov. 22. About 45 players and fathers were in attendance. Nov. 24, 1949

COLERIDGE — The honor roll, achievement list and perfect attendance records for students of the Coleridge public school the past six weeks was announced this week by Supt. J. E. Dalton. Twenty-four students appeared on the honor roll.

COLERIDGE — Merlynn Cady, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Cady, suffered a dislocation of the left wrist Monday when his arm was accidentally stepped on while a group of boys were playing at the school grounds.

COLERIDGE — A pair of topflight basketball games have been arranged to be played at the high school auditorium Tuesday evening to get the 1949 season underway.

One game will be played with merchants on the north side of the main street furnishing opposition for merchants on the south side.

The other game will be faculty members vs. the high school team.

Between halves of one of the affairs, a commando game will be played in which players will wear one boxing glove for defensive and offensive purposes.

Admission prices will be grade students, 10¢; high school students, 25¢; and adults, 50¢. Proceeds will be used to buy new equipment for the high school basketball team.

COLERIDGE —Funeral Services were held at the Congregational church here Tuesday for Ralph H.

Leapley, 63, longtime Coleridge resident, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 19. Mr. Leapley, who had been in ill health for several years, suffered a paralytic stroke at his home Monday.

COLERIDGE — Martin Bartling has been named the champion pork producer of Cedar county, it was announced this week by Farmers Hybrid Hogs of Hampton, Ia., sponsors of the National Champion Pork Producers Contest.

COLERIDGE — Capt. and Mrs.

Marvin Wallerstedt came Thursday for a visit in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wallerstedt, and with other relatives.

Capt. Wallerstedt returned to the states November 14 after serving 18 months in the Japan and Korea areas.

COLERIDGE — The Nebraska Music Educator’s Convention and All-State Music Clinic was held at Beatrice on November 18, 19, and 20. Miss Maxine Stone, Coleridge high school music instructor attended the convention, and three high school students participated in the clinic. Carol Ann Henry played French horn in the symphony orchestra and David Peterson and Harlan Schrieber sang in the chorus.

COLERIDGE — Lowell Hunter, Coleridge high school senior, was named to the Omaha World-Herald all-state 8-man football team. Lowell, a four-year letterman here, was named to an end position.

COLERIDGE — Twenty-three students appeared on the second six weeks honor roll released this week at the Coleridge school. Heading the list of honor students was Vernon Peck who received four A’s and one B.
