Area residents celebrated the 100th birthday of Belden’s pool Saturday and Sunday with a wide range of activities for all ages. Above, Mason Dickens takes a slide into the festivities Saturday. Belden’s pool is thought to be the oldest continuously operated pool in the state and the third oldest overall, opening July 23, 1923. Those attending the birthday bash enjoyed birthday cake, live music, free swimming, a car and tractor show, and other activities. The planning committee hoped to raise $100,000 for pool upkeep and repairs through free will donations and raffles during the celebration. An anonymous donor also agred to match $25,000 raised at the event.

COLERIDGE – Gary Sayler, 71, Coleridge, died Aug. 6, 2023, at his home outside of Coleridge. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 10, 5-7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, S.D.

CROFTON – Keith Koch, 57, Crofton, died Aug. 5, 2023, after battling cancer.

FORDYCE – Deane T. Gobel, 74, Fordyce, died Aug. 4, 2023, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, S.D.

Aug. 12, 1948 RANDOLPH - The city council and the Randolph board of education are collaborating on plans to relocate the football gridiron at the Randolph Community Park, it was announced the past week.
