WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils football team continued its winning ways on Thursday night as it rolled to a 54-6 win over the Randolph Cardinals.
The Blue Devils scored on their first five offensive possessions as they built a big 38-0 halftime lead, never looked back and improved to a 4-0 season mark.
Wynot’s offense was led by Zack Foxhoven, who had touchdown runs of 29 and 70 yards. Joseph Sudbeck had four catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns and Dylan Heine was 13-for-17 passing with three touchdowns.
On defense for the Blue Devils, Andrew Haberman recorded 10 tackles and Zack Foxhoven had nine tackles. Kotner Koch had a fumble recovery as well.
Randolph’s offense was led by Bryson Eledge with 21 carries for 38 yards and Shaw Backer with four catches for 46 yards. Gage Jensen had the Cardinals’ lone touchdown.
Randolph’s defense was paced by Bryson Eledge and Shaw Backer with seven tackles each.
The Blue Devils got off to a quick start, as after the opening kickoff, it took them just four plays to reach pay dirt. Dylan Heine connected with Joesph Sudbeck for the five-yard touchdown pass. Sudbeck also caught the two-point conversion attempt as Wynot led 8-0.
The Cardinals went three-and-out and Wynot struck quickly. Kason Koch took an option pitch around the right side, broke a tackle and raced 47 yards for the Blue Devils’ second score. Koch added the conversion attempt as the Blue Devils increased their lead to 16-0.
Wynot was on the march again on its next possession. Heine connected with Kotner Koch on a 34-yard catch-and-run that set up a one-yard touchdown toss to Chase Schroeder. Foxhoven ran in the conversion attempt as the Blue Devils were cruising 24-0 at the first-quarter break.
The Cardinals moved the ball deep into Wynot territory on their next offensive set. Aided by laundry on the field with a facemask and holding penalty, they moved into the Blue Devils’ red zone. Wynot’s defense stiffened and stopped Randolph at the four-yard line.
A 29-yard gain on a Foxhoven run and 16-yard firstdown catch by Chase Schroeder got Wynot out of the shadow of the end zone. Foxhoven capped the drive with a four-yard blast up the middle. The conversion pass was incomplete and the Blue Devils’ lead had ballooned to 30-0.
Randolph coughed up the ball on its next offensive set. Foxhoven made them pay as he galloped 60 yards for another Blue Devils score. Alec Sudbeck caught the conversion pass to up the score to 38-0 at halftime.
Wynot’s defense had the Cardinals pinned deep on their opening possession of the second half.
Kotner Koch blocked a punt and the ball went out the back of the end zone for a safety. The score stood at 40-0 early in the third period.
Randolph got off a monster punt that went all the way to the end zone. The Blue Devils were forced back to the 10-yard line on a procedure penalty.
Joesph Sudbeck broke up the left side and raced 70 yards for another Wynot touchdown. Carson Wieseler caught the conversion attempt, making the score 48-0 and implementing the running clock.
Randolph finally mounted a drive at the midpoint of the fourth quarter. First-down runs by Bryson Eledge and Shaw Backer got the drive going.
An interference call on the Blue Devils and a 16-yard catch by Dayton Winkelbauer set up a four-yard blast by Gage Jensen to help the Cardinals avoid the shutout. The conversion run was stopped. The score stood at 48-6.
In the final minutes of the game, Lane Heimes pounced on a fumble by Randolph. Two plays later, Heimes took the option pitch and raced 49 yards to make the final score 54-6 in favor of the Blue Devils.
