LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge football got back on track in a big way on the grid iron Sept. 15 when the Bears blasted Homer 68-15 at Haskell Field.

The LCC defense allowed two meaningless touchdowns in the second half long after the outcome of the game had been decided while the Bears offense was hitting on all cylinders, compiling more than 300 yards without the services of quarterback Dylan Taylor or his main target, Carter Kvols.

Gibson Roberts stepped in and completed all three of his pass attempts for 37 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball five times for another 53 yards.

The Bears jumped on the Knights from the opening kickoff, scoring 16 points in the first quarter on the way to a 46-point first half.

Bradyn Urwiler got things going in the first quarter with an 18-yard scamper to pay dirt, and after Roberts ran in the conversion, the Bears were up 8-0.

Connor Korth got into the scoring action next, capping off an LCC drive with a one-yard blast for a touchdown. Roberts again added the conversion with a run and the score was 16-0.

A huge second 12 minutes put the game out of reach and set the continuous clock in motion for the second half.

Eli Haisch scored first in the second quarter on a five-yard run. Roberts hit Urwiler for two points and the score was 24-0.

Urwiler scored again, this time from the one, to make it 30-0. The conversion pass was no good. Then Roberts found Landen Leonard for a 15-yard TD, and after Urwiler added a conversion run, the score ballooned to 38-0.

Korth finished off the first half with a 14yard sprint to the end zone and then ran in for two points to send the teams to the halftime huddle with the Bears in front 46-0.

The scoring slowed down in the second half as the clock ran all of the time due to the 35-point rule, but the Bears scored first with another Haisch run from seven yards away for the touchdown before Korth hit Leonard for two points to make it 54-0.

Tanner Thompson opened the fourth frame with a three-yard touchdown run after the Knights had scored late in the third quarter, and Tyler Boysen added the two points and the score was up to 62-7.

Boysen added a 71-yard sprint to end the offense in the contest and left the score at the 68-15 final.

Boysen led a balanced rushing attack for LCC with 96 yards on his four carries. Haisch finished with 69 on 11 totes, Roberts had 53 yards on the ground, Urwiler had 47, Korth had 32, Thompson had 18 and Kolten Settje had 10.

Urwiler and Korth led the Bears defense with seven tackles each and each had a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Ryder Jelinek had six tackles.

Korth intercepted a pass while Kayton Hall and Austin Hall both jumped on a Homer fumble.

The win over the Knights improved the Bears to 2-2 on the season as they look to travel to Crofton in a district match-up.

The Warriors are rated in Class D1 and a perfect 4-0 this season after joining the ranks of eight-man football.

Crofton defeated Hartington-Newcastle in its last game by a score of 58-38.
