Lady Bears win two on the court

LAUREL – The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team won two Lewis and Clark Conference matches last week with a three-set sweep over Tri County Northeast on Sept. 12 and a 3-2 win over Plainview in Laurel on Sept. 14.

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team won two Lewis and Clark Conference matches last week with a three-set sweep over Tri County Northeast on Sept. 12 and a 3-2 win over Plainview in Laurel on Sept. 14.

The Lady Bears came from behind in the win over the Lady Pirates.

LCC won the first set of the best-of-five-sets match 25-17, but Plainview battled back to take set two 25-17 and set three 25-21.

The Lady Bears forced a final set to 15, winning the fourth set 25-17 again, but the race to 15 took extra points.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge finally held out for a two-point advantage and won the final set 18-16.

Rena Rasmussen paced a balanced LCC attack with 10 kills, Tali Erwin added nine, Mallory Eriksen slammed eight, Carlie Kvols and Delaney Johnson each added six and Kaida Eriksen nailed five winners.

Rasmussen added a couple of ace serves and six blocks to her night.

Kvols tipped up 34 set-assists and added 15 digs to record a double-double.

Eriksen had 20 digs, five blocks and three assists; Erwin had 11 digs, Bailey Graf had 17 and Avery Hahne had eight.

Erwin also successfully passed 20 balls, Hahne and Laney Schutte had 18 each and Mallory Eriksen had 15.

LCC had an easier time with the Lady Wolfpack on the road as it won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-11.

Rasmussen and Mallory Eriksen had 14 and 13 winners, respectively. Erwin rifled eight and Tyler Recob had four.

Rasmussen also added three ace serves and five blocks.

Kvols registered 31 set-assists on the night and Erwin had 11 digs.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is set to host a triangular Sept. 21 with a couple of conference teams, Wynot and Wakefield.

The Lady Bears will also host Pierce on Sept. 25 in a non-conference match-up.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge defeats Plainview.
