CROFTON – The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats fought to the bitter end in what turned out to be their final match of the 2023 season in the C2-5 SubDistrict Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 23 in Crofton.

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept lottery applications for mountain lion permits Nov. 6 – Dec. 13, 2023, for the 2024 hunting season.

WYNOT - Wynot took advantage of some home cooking as it opened play in the D2-3 Sub-District Tournament here Oct. 23 as the No. 1 seed.

HOMER – It looked as though Wynot’s run to the Lewis & Clark Conference volleyball tournament title might fall one match short as Laurel-Concord-Coleridge came out of the gate in the best-of-five-sets match hitting on all cylinders.

HOMER – A very busy week turned into a very successful week for the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcat volleyball team as they opened the week completing a sevengame winning streak before dropping a couple of matches in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament.

WAYNE – The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats cross country team qualified for the Nebraska State Cross Country Championships on Oct. 20 at Kearney Country Club with a third-place showing at the C-3 District Meet held at Wayne Country Club on Oct. 11.   false

HARTINGTON – What seemed like a pipe dream just four weeks agobecame a reality last Friday night at the Hartington Community Complexas Hartington-Newcastle won its fourth consecutive football game to qualify for the postseason.

WYNOT – When two of the state’s top-rated football D2 teams meet, you can expect a real dogfight.

NORTH PLATTE – Maci Schommer represented the Cedar Catholic girls golf team at the 2023 Nebraska Class C State Golf Championships at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte for the second time in her career.

ALBION - The Cedar Catholic volleyball team dropped its opening match in the Mid-State Conference Tournament to Battle Creek in four sets 25-22,16-25,13-25 and 17-25 to drop to 15-13 overall.

WAYNE – Maci Schommer qualified for the State golf tournament with an eighthplace finish in the District meet last week.

LAUREL – Hartington-Newcastle started strong in a Lewis and Clark Conference showdown with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Oct. 5 on the volleyball court, but once the Lady Bears caught them in the opening set,they went by and stayed in front on the way to a 25-14,25-9 and 25-13 sweep over the Lady Wildcats.

LAUREL – Hartington-Newcastle completed an improbable comeback this season to wind up on the verge of making the Class D1 State football playoffs with one game to go.

WAUSA – The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are saving their collective bests, for last as they head into this week’s district contest.

WYNOT - Three quality teams got together for a triangular here in Wynot back on Oct. 5 with the Lady Blue Devils winning one match and dropping one match.

HARTINGTON – First half miscues and a stifling Battle Creek defense put the Cedar Catholic Trojans in a hole in the first half as Battle Creek came away with a 30-12 win here at the Hartington Community Recreation Complex Oct. 6.
