WAYNE – Author/photographer Jeff Barnes shares the images and stories of Nebraska’s lesser-known historical monuments, placed far off the beaten path, during his “Marking Nebraska: Our (Mostly) Hidden Historical Monuments” program at Wayne State College on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Admission is free and the public is invited.

MADISON – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball team went 2-1 in the Madison Invitational on Sept. 23 in Madison.
WAKEFIELD – The Wynot Lady Blue Devils and the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears met in the second match of a volleyball triangular played in Wakefield on Sept. 21, with Wynot coming away with a 25-21, 25-22 sweep of LCC in the best-of-three-sets match.
CROFTON – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge played its second district football game of the season against undefeated Crofton on Sept. 22.

LINCOLN – There’s increased pessimism about the present and future of rural Nebraska, according to the latest Rural Poll conducted by a wing of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
WAYNE – The public is invited to an opening reception for the Wayne State College Faculty Art Exhibit at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery, located on the main level of Conn Library on campus. The exhibit is free and open to the public through Nov. 22.
LINCOLN – After gaining federal permission, the family of a famed poet/author plans to trek to a remote corner of South Dakota in October to retrieve a century-old monument dedicated to a heroic mountain man.
