CONCORD — The Concord Awana Clubs held their annual Awana Grand Prix, Sunday, April 7, at the Evangelical Free Church in Concord.
Children from the Wayne Fire-Up program were also invited to participate. Thirty-four boys and girls, grades 3-6, participated. Trophy awards were as follows: Design – First Place, Vincent Lipp; Second Place – Lauren Patefield; Third Place – Emily Fuoss.
Speed – First Place, Calvin Lipp; Second Place – JJ Dangberg; Third Place – Cassidy Oswald.
Participants drew their initial car design on a plain block of wood in February. Cars were cut out and club members finished them off with paint and other detailing in March. Volunteers attached the wheels and also made sure that each car weighed five ounces.
The Grand Prix began at 2 p.m. with a welcome from the Grand Prix Director, Bill Dickey, followed by a brief message from Pastor Todd Thelen. Approximately 140 children, parents, grandparents, visitors and Awana volunteers were in attendance. Refreshments were served.
Awana and Fire-Up are both nondenominational organizations. The clubs feature Bible stories, Scripture memorization, games, songs and treats.
