Signs of Spring

The arrival of winter weather in December 1953 brought construction to a halt on the earthen embankment that would form the greater part of Gavins Point Dam.

WAYNE – Dynamic jazz meets dramatic film music at the Wayne State College Jazz and String Ensembles concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building at Wayne State. The concert is free and open to the public.

HOMER – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears and Lady Bears traveled a little short-handed to Homer for the Homer Track and Field Invitational on April 11 at Ivan Krumwiede Field.

LAUREL – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge hosted its own golf invitational on April 11 at Cedar View Country Club in Laurel, and the Bears finished ninth out of 15 teams in the tournament.

CONCORD – The Concord Awana Clubs held their annual Awana Grand Prix, Sunday, April 7, at the Evangelical Free Church in Concord.

LINCOLN – In an effort to emphasize the importance of multiactivity participation, the Nebraska School Activities Association and the Nebraska State Colleges launched the Nebraska State Colleges Multi-Activity Student Award program in the fall of 2020.

Candidates share views at forum

75 Years Ago - April 21, 1949 RANDOLPH – A York air-condition gin refrigeration unit has been installed by Leonard Lease in the Roxy Theater. Norfolk Gas & Electric Co. made the installation, which was completed this week.

RANDOLPH – A piece of Randolph’s history was on the auction block as the former Randolph Equipment & Repair building at 202 W. Broadway, and its contents were sold April 11.

HARTINGTON – Twenty-nine 4-H members were awarded ribbons at the 2024 Cedar County 4-H Public Speaking Contest held April 1, including three youth from Randolph.
