CREIGHTON – Hartington-Newcastle volleyball sandwiched a sweep over Creighton between a couple of losses at the Creighton Invitational Sept. 9, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 25-20 and 25-21 in the best-of-threesets match.

CREIGHTON – The Wynot Lady Blue Devils volleyball team picked up a pair of Lewis and Clark Conference wins last week.

Changes made to turkey hunting season

The Hartington 3-4 grade and 5-6 grade football teams played in their first games of the season Sunday afternoon at the Hartington Community Complex. The 3-4 grade team lost 33-6 to Homer, while the 5-6 grade team defeated Ponca 42-21. The teams compete each Sunday through the season.

DAVID CITY – Cedar Catholic football hit the road Friday for the second time this season and came away with a 25-13 fourth-quarter win over Aquinas Catholic in David City.

WYNOT – After opening the season with three straight losses, the Hartington-Newcastle volleyball team has won three matches in a row, including last Thursday’s Wynot Quadrangular.

HUMPHREY – In a battle of state-rated football teams, the Wynot Blue Devils downed the Humphrey St. Francis Flyers 14-6 Friday night on the road.

BEEMER – The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams brought home five medals from the Wisner- Pilger Invitational held at Indian Trails Country Club near Beemer on Aug. 31, with both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats winding up fourth in the meet in their respective divisions.

WYNOT - Wynot hosted its own quadrangular on the volleyball court and split two matches to go to 3-1 in the early season.

STANTON – The Cedar Catholic girls’ golf team placed third in the Stanton Invitational recently held at the Elkhorn Acres Golf Club after carding a teamtotal of 456.

HARTINGTON – Hartington-Newcastle dropped its home opening game on the gridiron on Sept. 1 with a loss to Plainview, 42-6, to fall to 0-2 on the 2023 season.

NORFOLK – The Cedar Catholic volleyball team used a sweep over an old rival and a win in one-of-two matches in the Scotus Central Volleyball Tournament in Columbus to go .500 during a busy week after opening the 2023 campaign with three wins.

RANDOLPH – Nearly 100 people attended a joint meeting between Randolph and Osmond’s school boards to discuss a potential high school football cooperative between the two schools for the 2024 season.

LINCOLN – There are more than a million acres of publicly accessible lands throughout Nebraska. The recently published 2023-2024 Public Access Atlas identifies and consolidates these public access resources for the benefit of Nebraska’s hunters, trappers and anglers.

LINCOLN – Visitors to Johnson Lake State Recreation Area will notice the lowering of the lake level this fall. The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District will lower it in preparation of an outage at the Johnson No. 1 hydroplant.

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct its annual grouse wing collection during the upcoming upland season starting Sept. 1.

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has announced plans for a fall renovation of the Lake Ogallala fishery. Deteriorated aquatic habitat conditions and declining sportfish populations have prompted this renovation. To ensure safety, some temporary closures will be implemented.
