SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Heavy rains in eastern South Dakota, and parts of northeastern Nebraska and northwestern Iowa have led to flooding, road closures and evacuations.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington City Council Monday agreed to sell its 2004 GMC garbage truck to the village of Wynot.

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen is acting proactively to mitigate the impact of any flooding that happens along the Missouri River. Today, he declared a state of emergency for those counties that abut the river, which will immediately free up state funds and resources, should the need arise. The proclamation confers authority to Nebraska’s Adjutant General to activate those resources, to protect lives and property.

COLERIDGE – LifeServe Blood Center hosted a blood drive in Coleridge June 17, and had a great turnout, with 15 donors registered to donate and 15 units of blood collected. The units donated at the blood drive can help save up to 45 lives.

LINCOLN - More than 6,600 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

HARTINGTON – The public is invited for coffee and a book signing with children’s author, Charleen Meyer, at the Hartington Public Library, from 10-11 a.m., June 28. Meyer is the author of the “Sunflower Seed Caper,” along with eight other children’s books.

WAYNE – Wayne State College included 1,154 students on the dean’s list for exemplary academic achievement during the Spring 2024 semester. Students listed on the dean’s list are full-time undergraduate students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale for the semester. An asterisk (*) denotes a 4.0 GPA for the term.

HARTINGTON – All Cedar County residents are invited and encouraged to enter open class exhibits for the Cedar County Fair, July 18. Exhibit categories includes Horticulture, Fruits and Vegetables, Flowers, Domestic Science, Quilts, Photography, Needlework and Arts and Crafts for all ages.
