Hartington-Newcastle wins another Class C2 State speech team title
The Hartington-Newcastle High School speech team claimed yet another State speech title last week in Kearney. HNS senior Alexus Hans (above) took home second-place honors at State in the Persuasive Speaking category. Junior Ryell Haug competes in a warm-up to State. Hartington-Newcastle sent 11 of its school-record 18 entries to finals and had three event State champions to score 176 points to win the team title.

MITCHELL, S.D. – Kevin Paul Kruger, 62, son of Helen (Dickes) and Lawrence, died of cancer Feb. 21, 2024, while under the care of hospice.
KEARNEY – Isabelle Heimes has talked her way to an individual State speech title.
WAYNE – Wayne State College’s Fred G. Dale Planetarium is set to present special Easter showings of “The Sistine Chapel” March 29-31.
KEARNEY – Even though the Cedar Catholic High School speech team was disappointed with its State meet showing, it was still proud of its overall season.
Dear Editor: Gov. Pillen is pushing legislative bill 1375 which must be opposed. It will take regulatory power away from locally elected County Supervisors.
I was entrusted with a big responsibility about four years ago. A long-time friend came into the office, and I gladly put away the paperwork I had been trudging through as I waited for him to pick up where we’d left off the last time we chatted.
