The old song and dance

The month of May brought a flurry of activities for members of the Senior class of 1943. The first activity was “skip day.” Thirty-five of the 38 seniors were driven to Sioux City where they spent the morning visiting city hall, the fire department, and the bomber plant. After lunch they spent the afternoon rollerskating on the floor of the Rigadon ballroom. In the evening they attended a movie.

HARTINGTON – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge got busy over the past week as the golf team prepares for the upcoming district tournament May 14 in Hartington.

PONCA - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge track teams completed a busy week with the Lewis & Clark Conference Meet held here April 27. Earlier in the week the teams were in Creighton for an invitational which saw the Lady Bears bring home the runner-up hardware.

WAYNE – The Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership will hold the Wayne WIC and Immunization Clinic Tuesday, May 7, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 516 Main St. in Wayne.

LAUREL – The LifeServe Blood Center will hold a blood drive in Laurel this month.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – On Friday, April 19, Laurel-Concord- Coleridge music students participated in the District Music Contest at South Sioux City Middle School.

CONCORD – Concord Awana Clubs hosted a year-end celebration and awards ceremony at Evangelical Free Church of Concord on Wednesday, April 24.

RANDOLPH – Randolph High School’s business teacher is reluctantly leaving a job he loves after impacting students for more than three decades.

75 Years Ago - May 5, 1949 RANDOLPH – A bridge on a county road three miles south of Randolph was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning. The ten-foot bridge was engulfed in flames and beyond saving by the time the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department arrived. Of crested planks, the bridge burned rapidly, with the flames fanned by the strong wind.

HARTINGTON – Cedar County and other area counties will have equipment at their fingertips to check fingertips for identification.

Randolph Elementary’s first-grade class performed “Little Red Hen” last week.

Tracksters lay out season best efforts

HARTINGTON – Two Hartington-Newcastle High School students have been recognized for dashing toward an idea that is all about inclusion.

HARTINGTON – Jurors deliberated for more than two hours Friday evening and found a Louisiana man guilty of manslaughter.
