Celebrating 100 days

After a lengthy detour through the history of the old lumber yard and the arrival of natural gas, this week’s column returns to the spring of 1943.

COLERIDGE – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Middle School students are taking part in the Lego League competition.

OAKLAND – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge traveled south to Oakland for the C2-6 SubDistrict Tournament Feb. 13 and 15.

LAUREL – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge slipped to .500 with a 56-41 loss to Class D2 powerhouse Wynot here on Feb. 16 in LCC’s regular-season finale as they head into sub-district action this week.

RANDOLPH – The Randolph City Council is seeking citizen input to help improve the community.

RANDOLPH – The field to fill the Randolph school board became crowded with a total of five candidates to fill three seats with the latest filings at the Cedar County Clerk’s Office.

RANDOLPH – Fundraising for a city aquatic center is going swimmingly.

RANDOLPH – Weather events in January will push back the completion date of the Middle Logan Creek Floodplain Project.

A number of student athletes represented the Randolph Cardinals at state tournaments over the weekend. Aiden Gubbels (above left) earned sixth place in his heavyweight wrestling division in Class D at the state wrestling tournament in Omaha while Gavin Wortman (above right) saw action but did not place. At top, members of the Randolph dance team - Lily Kuchta, Nicole Haselhorst, Katarina Greiner, Kamile Oligmueller, Ella Scott and Ella Graf - earned third place in pom and fourth place in hip hop categories during state dance in Grand Island.

Feb. 24, 1949

RANDOLPH – The Randolph Woman’s Club met Feb. 12 at the Lied Randolph Public Library. Members answered roll call with memories of happy, funny or touching valentine cards received in the past.

RANDOLPH –The Osmond-Randolph Hawks started postseason play last Monday at Norfolk Catholic where they would take on the Lutheran High Eagles.

OMAHA –Two young men headed to the state wrestling finals representing a Randolph Cardinals program that wanted to see a solid season end on an ideal high.
