LINCOLN – A tug of war is underway between local school officials and Gov. Jim Pillen on how the $300 million a year in extra funds for K-12 schools should be used.

GRAND ISLAND – The Nebraska State Fair announced continued attendance growth in 2023. The attendance at Nebraska’s largest annual event broke 300,000 for the first time since COVID, posting 8.5 percent growth over 2022 with 311,909 guests during its 11-day run ending on Labor Day.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington Library has several “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” award winners. HARTINGTON – Rev. Emil Gustav Andreas Christensen is considered to be the first resident Lutheran home missionary pastor in Northeast Nebraska and Southeast Dakota Territory.

HARTINGTON – Pastor Nels G. Tvedt, the first resident pastor in Northeast Nebraska, had many trials and tribulations. He came to this area in 1875 as an assistant to Pastor Emil Christensen, who was located at Gayville, S.D.

Rev. N.G. Tvedt became the first resident pastor serving from 18801907.

HARTINGTON – The need for spiritual guidance and a hunger for God’s word were strong in the hearts of Cedar County pioneers.
