LCC track squads compete in their final L&C Conference meet

PONCA - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge track teams completed a busy week with the Lewis & Clark Conference Meet held here April 27. Earlier in the week the teams were in Creighton for an invitational which saw the Lady Bears bring home the runner-up hardware.

The conference meet was won by Ponca in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

The Lady Indians outlasted Homer 99-87, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was eighth with 35.

The Indians bettered Bloomfield 93.5 to 84 for the boys’ title, the Bears also ended up eighth with 36 points.

Preston Rose earned a conference championship in the 400 meters with a time of 52.57 seconds.

Carter Kvols was second in the 800 in 2:06.53 and Tyler Olson was sixth in the 3,200.

The 4X400 relay team of Gibson Roberts, Hunter Benson, Kvols and Rose placed third with a time of 3:46.75 and the 4X100 team of Tyler Boysen, Rose, Roberts and Kvols used a 47.31 showing to place fourth.

Tali Erwin paced the Lady Bears in the conference meet.

Erwin had a hand in 22 points in the meet, grabbing a conference title in 100-meter hurdles, placing second in the high jump and finishing sixth in the 300 hurdles.

She also ran a leg in the LCC 4X100 relay team which placed eighth.

Joining Erwin for the relay were Hattie McCorkindale, Carlie Kvols and Brynlee Stanley.

The Lady Bears 4X800 relay squad of Justice Olson, Tyler Recob, Abbie Brummels and Faith Galvin placed fourth and the 4X400 quartet of Kvols, Recob, McCorkindale and Olson placed eighth.

Olson picked up her third medal of the day with an eighth-place showing in the 1,600 and finished one spot away from bringing home four with a ninth-place finish in the 3,200.

Delaney Johnson earned a medal after placing seventh in the shot with a best of 30-01.

In the Creighton meet, the Lady Bears finished with 110 team points trailing only Wausa which posted 137.

The Bears finished fifth in the meet with 62 points.

Olson went back-to-back for the Lady Bears in the 1,600 and 3,200 winning both and running a leg along with Galvin, Recob and Brummels to win the 4X800 relay.

Erwin won the 100 hurdles. Recob was second in the 800-meter run, Brummels was second to Olson in the 1,600 and Galvin was second to Olson in the 3,200.

Laney Folkers was second in the triple jump with a best of 29-09.25.

The 4X400 team of Kvols, Mc-Corkindale, Olson and Recob placed second in that event.

For the Bears, Rose won the 200 with Roberts placing fourth.

Olson won the 3,200, placed second in the 1,600 and was fourth in the 400.

The 4X400 squad of Roberts, Benson, Kvols and Rose won the race in 3:47.95.

The Bears and Lady Bears will host the Winside Invitational at Haskell Field on May 2 before holding off for the C-4 District Meet May 9 in Hartington.
