Bears have busy week on the links; Urwiler earns conference hardware

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge got busy over the past week as the golf team prepares for the upcoming district tournament May 14 in Hartington.

The Bears competed in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament in Randolph on April 29 and Bradyn Urwiler found himself in the medals at the end of the 18-hole affair.

Urwiler fired an 82 which put him in a tie for fifth and sixth.

He lost the playoff but still came away with the sixth-place medal.

Grant Sprakel of Ponca was the medalist with a 77 and led the Indians to the team title after the rest of the team made up a 324 total, 37 stroked better than runner-up Creighton at 361.

The Bears ended up fifth in the team standings after carding a 374 as a team.

Jackson Hall was 20th with a 91; Talon Cars used a 92 for 23rd, Kolten Settje shot a 109 for 47th and Tanner Thompson rounded out the scoring with a 111.

On April 27, the Bears traveled to Battle Creek for the Pierce Invitational.

Apparently the Pierce golf course is rebuilding a green and is not playable for a tournament.

Bloomfield won the team title at the Pierce meet with an 18-hole total of 364. Cedar Catholic was a shot behind a 365 and Crofton/Wynot came in third with a 371. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was ninth with a 398.

Carson Wieseler of Crofton/Wynot won the individual championship after shooting a 83, one shot better than Bloomfield’s Keaton Gilsdorf.

Hall led the Bears with a 95, Urwiler shot a 100, Thompson a 101, Carson a 102 and Settje right behind at 103.

LCC is set to travel to the Wayne Country Club on May 2 for the Wayne Invitational then to the Randolph Invitational on May 6 and the Wakefield Invitational back at Wayne on May 7.

The C-3 District Meet is scheduled for May 14 at the Hartington Golf Course.
