HARTINGTON — Donna Fischer, 84, Hartington, died April 9, 2025, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.

Funeral services were April 14 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hartington, with the Rev. Terry Buol officiating.

Burial was at the Hartington City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Fischer, Scott Fischer, Troy Fischer, Corey Fischer, Taylor Fischer, Christopher Fischer, Ross Fischer, Nathan Fischer, Cody Fischer, Tanner Fischer, and Cole Fischer.

Honorary pallbearers were Donna’s granddaughters Megan Carson, Brandi Fischer-Grebe, Myranda Fahrenbruch, Amanda Carl, Alyssa Fischer, Kloe Fischer, Katelyn Fischer, and Brooklyn Fischer.

Visitation and a prayer service were Sunday at church, and continued Monday, one hour prior to services at church. The visitation and funeral service were live streamed at www.facebook.com/ WintzRay.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Donna Faye was born Dec. 16, 1940, in Laurel, to Everett Raymond and Gertrude Lilly (Dempsey) Murkle. She grew up in the Coleridge area and graduated from Coleridge High School. She worked for Hegert’s Hardware for two years and then worked for two years at the Courthouse in Hartington in the Treasurer’s office. Donna married Gerald Raymond Fischer Jan. 8, 1961, in Coleridge. Donna and Gerald were partners in the establishment of Fischer Brothers and then went on to establish Fischer Feed & Supply in Hartington, where she has been a vital part of the business as a secretary and bookkeeper for 64 years until July 2024. They started off with just a couple trucks and a feed mill andthey have seen their business transition to the full service Feed Store it is today. She was also involved in Midwest Tree Service from 1989-2025.

Donna was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, and a member of its choir and finance board for many years. She also taught Sunday school for many years. Donna loved her grandchildren and attending all their activities. Donna loved to mow and spent a lot of time keeping the grounds in shape. She played the organ, the accordion, harmonica and the mandolin. She always loved to take her car where everyone was working and sit late into the evening just to be with family.

Donna is survived by her husband, Gerald, Hartington; four children and spouses, Jerry (Jolene) Fischer, Scott (Lisa) Fischer, Troy (Teresa) Fischer, Corey (Ann) Fischer, all of Hartington; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Larry Murkle, Coleridge; a sister, Darlene Brockman, Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Gertrude Murkle; one granddaughter, Rebecca Fischer; and sister-in-law, Sharon Murkle.
