ST. HELENA — Sharon W. Schulte, 85, St. Helena, died April 10, 2025, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, S.D. Mass of Christian Burial will be April 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena, with the Rev. Craig Loecker officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, rural St. Helena. Pallbearers will be Gordon Schulte, Calvin Schulte, Robert Schulte, Jason Schulte, Morey Schulte, Grace Zimmerman and Gary Zimmerman. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Sharon’s grandchildren. Visitation and a vigil service were Tuesday, at church. Visitation will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Sharon W. was born Feb. 21, 1940, in Fordyce, to Hubert and Mary Theresa (Hegge) Schrempp. She grew up in the Fordyce area and attended elementary school there. Sharon graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Hartington, in 1958. She worked at M-Tron in Yankton from 1958-1960, prior to her marriage to Donald C. Schulte Aug. 8, 1960, in Fordyce. Sharon and Donald lived most of their lives in St. Helena, where they raised six children, Gordon, Calvin, Robert, Jason, Morey and Grace. Donald died on Aug. 20, 2006, at the age of 79 years. Sharon has lived at Sister James Care Center, Yankton, since Dec. 8, 2017.
Sharon was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, St. Helena, and was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, Christian Mothers and the CCW. Sharon was also part of the prayer chain of the church. Sharon’s devotion to her church really came through when she volunteered to redo all of the church pews, which meant stripping them, staining and varnishing them to look like new. She would work on two pews per week. She then redid the pews at Sacred Heart Church, Wynot, until her health started failing. It was a labor of love.
Sharon enjoyed crocheting, doing needle point, sewing, gardening, canning and raising lots of flowers to surround herself with natural beauty.
Sharon is survived by her six children and their spouses, Gordon (Cheryl) Schulte, St. Helena. Calvin (Deanna), Wynot. Robert (Elaine) Schulte, Yankton, S.D.; Jason (Kristin) Schulte, Yankton, S.D.; Morey (Carrie) Schulte, Yankton, S.D.; Grace (Gary) Zimmerman, Tabor, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Sidney Schrempp, Fordyce; a sister, Shirley Kaiser, St. Helena; two sisters-in-law, Marie Schrempp, Yankton, S.D.; Louise Neuhalfen, St. Helena; best friend, Marie Kramer, Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Mary Schrempp; husband, Donald; sister, Sandy (Merle) Loecker; a brother, Stanley Schrempp; and brother-in-law, Benny Kaiser.
