Charles Henry was born April 16, 1928, in Wayne, to Charles Sr. and Regina (Dorman) Junck. Charlie spent his childhood growing up on the farm. He attended Carroll Public School, but left high school early to stay at home, helping his father farm. This was the beginning of Charlie’s lifetime of being a farmer.
Charlie met the love of his life, Lila, at a roller-skating party in Randolph. Charlie and Lila Jean Isom were married Sept. 12, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wayne, and celebrated 76 years together last fall. They spent many happy years farming and raising their family in the Carroll/Sholes area. Charlie served on the Sholes Public School Board. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph, and served as a past council member.
After moving into Randolph in 1979, Charlie worked for the city of Randolph. Even though living in town, Charlie was still a farmer at heart, always ready to jump in his pickup and drive to the farm. If there were no jobs for him to help with, he was content to sit in his pickup and watch what was going on or as some might say, “watch the corn grow!” He kept a big interest in the crops and cattle. Charlie especially enjoyed visiting with and hearing stories about his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He remembered all their names and was very proud of them all.
Survivors include his children, Dot (Greg) Thelen, Randolph; Daryl (Annette) Junck, Laurel; Rich (Peg) Junck, Randolph; Dave Junck, Randolph; 13 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ilene (Leonard) Guinn, Omaha; Karen Burns, Fremont; and Rita Isom, Randolph; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Lila Junck, Nov. 14, 2024; parents, Charles Sr. and Regina Junck; daughter-in-law, Raeleen Junck; brothers, Arnold (Ivy) Junck and Ernest (Viola) Junck; sisters, Mildred (Gilbert) Sundahl, Janice (Paul) Brader and Doris (Dale) Claussen; brothers-in-law, Roley Isom and Wayne Burns; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Harold) Burns and Emogene (Glenn) Andrews.
