Alberta Jean was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Oakland, to Herman and Gladys (Magnusen) Dorfmeyer. Alberta graduated from High School in Hooper.
She married Phillip Edward Hines Aug. 18, 1948, in Fremont. She and Phillip lived their entire married life in Coleridge where they farmed. Alberta spent the past three years living with her daughter Jane in Sidney.
Alberta was a farmer and dedicated farmer’s wife. When you ask friends and family what they will remember most about Alberta, it would be that she loved watching her crops grow, both in plants and humans. Her children would like to believe they were her best crop. She tended to everyone with her strong faith. She mastered a life as a wife and mother, filled with gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, beating everyone she played Scrabble with, well, almost all the time. Quietly the most competitive person you could ever meet. She had the ability to recall everyone and special dates for everyone.
She was sharp witted and an incredible sense of humor. She championed the best cinnamon rolls and apple pie. Alberta produced quilts and afghans for everyone. We will remember her kindness, her smile, her physical resilience and the moments she gave us all. Her journey is not yet finished, we believe she has weaved golden threads in our hearts to have faith, planted seeds to be productive, strong and determined with joy to go forward in our lives with peace in our hearts. Her ability to make a place in all our lives is everlasting.
Alberta is survived by her five children, Leslie (Gayle) Hines, Des Moines, Iowa; Gwendolyn (Jorge) Seba, Cibolo, Texas; Rowena Johnson and Russell Piippo, Waco, Texas; Jane (Chris) Schaaf, Sidney; and Thomas (Grace) Hines, Prescott, Ariz.; sister, Janet Presley; and sister-in-law, Nancy Kusel; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom Alberta cherished and adored.
