LAUREL — Jerry Lee Nelson, 74, Laurel, died Dec. 18, 2024, at Faith Regional Hospital, Norfolk.
Memorial services are planned for a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.
Jerry Lee was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Vorice and Leona Fern (Middleton) Nelson. He grew up in the Laurel area and graduated from Laurel High School in 1969. After high school, Jerry started driving a semi-truck. He worked for Wiemers Trucking, Laurel, before he purchased his own truck. Jerry drove for many years for Grey Carriers out of Norfolk, before he retired in 2015.
After Jerry retired he drove part-time for Kvols Farms.
Jerry enjoyed sharing the past 37 years with his love, Sally Roberts. He was an avid scratch golfer and belonged to the Cedar View Club, Laurel. He helped with many projects on the course through the years and enjoyed traveling with his golf buddies to tournaments. Jerry loved all sports and playing cards with his friends either at the golf course or downtown Laurel. He and Sally collected many trophies that they won from their golf experiences together. He loved his family and extended family and was never mean to anyone.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sally Roberts, Laurel; his step son, Dustin Roberts, Allen; grandson, Nathanial Roberts, North Sioux City, S.D.; and countless lifelong friends and relatives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Vorice and Leona Nelson.
