Konrad Maibaum was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Yankton, S.D., to Joseph and Minnie (Junkerfeurborn) Maibaum. He grew up in Crofton on the family farm. He attended East Blyville Country and St. Rose of Lima schools. Konrad began farming at 9 years old, and farmed his entire life, which included custom farming for over 70 years. His sense of humor and one-liners will be deeply missed by everyone. His last few years of farming took on a supervisory role, as he gave free advice to anyone that listened. Konrad married Darlene Foxhoven Aug. 26, 1959, in Constance, and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Darlene Maibaum; and his eight children, Paul (Brenda) Maibaum, Jeff (Carla) Maibaum, Mike Maibaum, Mary (Jerry) Dittrich, Joseph (Laurie) Maibaum, Sandy (Jarod) Mellem, Nancy (Larry) Potts, and Bill (Andrea) Maibaum; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Poppe and Ruth Foxhoven; and many nieces and nephews.
Konrad was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Matthew Maibaum; his brother, Vern Maibaum and sister, Ann Maibaum Metz and many extended family members.
