CROFTON — Sally Hofmaier, 86, Crofton, died Oct. 26, 2024, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 30, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial was in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton. Visitation and a vigil service were Oct. 29 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Visitation continued one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Pallbearers were Edwin, Dean, Luke and Ethan Kleinschmit, and Steve and Shane Wieseler. Celestine “Sally” Hofmaier was born July 31, 1938, in Wynot, to Herman and Mary Ann (Arens) Lenzen. She grew up in the Wynot and St. James area and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School, Hartington. After graduation, she stayed on the family farm to help raise all her younger brothers and sisters. Sally also babysat for several area families and worked for a few years at Dale Electronics, Yankton, S.D. Sally married Donald “Doc” Hofmaier July 22, 1964, in St. James. After their marriage, they moved to Crofton where they owned and operated a veterinary business. Doc worked as a veterinarian while Sally took care of everything with the office. They worked together until Doc died Nov. 22, 2004. A few years after he died, Sally moved to his family farm north of Crofton.

She loved being outdoors, working around the farm and in her garden. Sally also loved going hunting and fishing with Doc and spent many hours camping along the Missouri River.

She was active in her community and church as a member of St. Rose and the Crofton American Legion Auxiliary.

Sally was an amazing mother and was always there for her family. She will be greatly missed.

Sally is survived by her son, David (Kathy) Hofmaier, Crofton; four grandchildren, Drew, Daniel, Brady and Peyton; three brothers, Louis (Carol) Lenzen, Buffalo, Minn.; Raymond (Crystal) Lenzen, Hartington; and Martin Lenzen, Creighton; six sisters, Marlene Pick, Erie, Colo.; Rita (Larry) Wittmeier, Vermillion, S.D.; Mary (Jim) Buechler, Papillion; Linda (Mike) Anderson, Hancock, Iowa; Diane (John) Russo, Marble Falls, Texas; and Sharon Bennett, Kennewick, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Hofmaier; brother, Vernon Lenzen; and brothers-in-law, Jack Schaffer and Gerald Bennett.
