Phyllis was born Jan. 6, 1938, on a farm near Menominee, to Robert D. and Marjorie Ann (Kuehn) Leader. She was baptized at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Constance. Phyllis married Freeman Homer Boelter Jan. 28,1954, and from that union had four children. Phyllis married Dennis Raymond Lowin July 24, 1976, in Bloomfield, which became their home for 22 years, until building a home in Crofton, where family and wildlife could gather. She loved that her dogs and wildlife knew that their home was a safe haven, where they would be well-fed and taken care of.

Phyllis was an active member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Prior to retirement she spent many years in the service industry, including owning and operating The Cedar Room Bar and Café in Bloomfield, and managing the clubhouse at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield. Phyllis had a strong work ethic that remained with her until the very end.

She was a collector of antiques, plates, steins and spoons. However, her greatest joy was found in being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a loving, patient mother and grandmother, who nurtured through grace and kindness. She was the strongest, yet gentlest person, always putting others before herself.

Left to celebrate her life are her husband of 48 years, Dennis Raymond Lowin, Crofton; her children, Marilyn Poppe, Yankton, S.D.; Patty Wheeler (Bo), Crofton; Gary Boelter (Thalia), Crofton; Doug Boelter (Sheila), Algona, Iowa; step daughter, Tammy (Matt) Moeller, Madison; her only sister, Marlene Bromley, Tilden; her treasured grandchildren, Jamie (Kristy) Poppe, Jason (Erica) Poppe, Jessica (Wesley) Christensen, T.J. (Rachael) Wheeler, Sherri Wheeler (Sasha Babic), Tara Wheeler, Beau Marie (Jesse) Huerta, Justin (Tracy) Wheeler, Matthew (Maggie Carter) Boelter, Travis (Jenna) Boelter, Kayla Boelter, Zach Boelter, Jenna Boelter, step-grandchildren Shae (Tyler) Vanschoiack, Rhaegen (Logan) Frey; 21 great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marjorie Leader, and her brother-in-law, Larry Bromley.

Phyllis’ wishes were for memorials to be directed to the Heartland Humane Society, 3400 E. Highway 50, Yankton, S.D.
