ST. HELENA — Cynthia “Cindy” Hans, 67, St. Helena, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, died June 7, 2024, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.

Mass of Christian Burial will be June 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St Helena.

The service will be officiated by Rev. Jeremy Hans and Rev. Jim Keiter. Cindy will be laid to rest at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, rural St. Helena.

Pallbearers include Kaden Bovee, Landon Hans, Casey Culhane, Connor Culhane, Sam Heine and Kent Hochstein.

Visitation and a vigil service were Tuesday at the church. Visitation will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Cindy was born April 6, 1957, in Yankton, S.D., to Leo Francis and Dorothy Marie (Wilaby) Culhane. She spent her childhood in Hartington and graduated from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School in 1975. After high school, she attended the University of Nebraska and later Hastings College, where she earned an associate’s degree in early childhood development. Cindy married Mark Anthony Hans Oct. 6, 1979, in Hartington. The couple shared a beautiful life together, creating a family and nurturing their love for over four decades. Cindy worked at the family-owned Culhane Jewelry Store, Hartington, before dedicating most of her career to First National Bank, Yankton. She continued her work at the bank until she was diagnosed with leukemia eight years ago.

Cindy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was also one of the founding members of the “Church Ladies.” She found joy in her family, grandchildren, and cherished her dogs, flowers and bird-watching.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband, Mark Hans, St. Helena; her three children, Kellie (Andrew) Green, Olathe, Kan.; Nathan (Amber) Hans, Yankton, S.D.; and Alex Hans, Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Evan, Quinn, Callum, Kaden, Baylee, Landon, Jace and Asher; two siblings, Steve (Elaine) Culhane, Omaha, and Don Culhane, Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Kate Culhane, Lincoln, and Tammy Culhane Reiber, Lincoln; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Culhane; and two brothers, Larry and Dennis Culhane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the L eukemia and Lymphoma Society and the National Marrow Donor Program.
