Wendy Rae was born Feb. 25, 1975, in Yankton, S.D., to David Charles and Marlene Ann (Vogt) Pick. She grew up in the Coleridge area and graduated from Coleridge Community Schools in 1993. She then attended and graduated from Northeast Community College, Norfolk, with a secretarial degree. Wendy worked for K-Mart, Gurney’s Seed and Nursery, both in Yankton, and then as a dietary aide for Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Wendy also helped with her mother’s business Countryside Home-spun Creations, where she enjoyed designing quilt blocks, lap quilts and many other treasures. Their business donated many quilts to the San-ford Hospital over the years. She and Marlene would travel to craft shows to show and sell their creations.
Wendy was always an “organizer,” and was strong in her faith. She loved growing plants, being on social media and following and watching her nieces’ and nephews’ many activities. Wendy was involved in 4-H and was the 4-H flower exhibits superintendent at the Cedar County Fair for many years. She helped her mother raise goats and documented all their births, sales etc.
Wendy is survived by her mother, Marlene, Cole-ridge; two sisters and spouses, Brandy (Neil) Wallin, Vermillion, S.D.; Misty (Travis) Wells, Vermillion, S.D.; seven nieces and nephews; her uncle Allen Vogt, Grand Island; and her beloved cat, Sparkler.
She was preceded in death by her father, David, Nov. 7, 2003, at the age of 59; and her grandparents.
