NORFOLK — Funeral service for Lyle W. Vawser, 87, Norfolk, were Feb. 24 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk. Rev. Terry Buol officiated the service.

Interment was at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Casket bearers were Steve Vawser, Wes Vawser, Garett Vawser, Pat Mussack, Kevin Luebbert, Kyle Luebbert, and Frank Fisher.

Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters, Emily Mussack and Marisa Fisher.

Visitation was Friday also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel.

Memorials can be made to the family for later designation.

Stonacek Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Lyle died Feb. 19, 2024, at the Country House Residence, Kearney.

Lyle was born April 20, 1936, in Burke, S.D., to Glen W. and Alice M. (Vaughn) Vawser. Lyle attended grade school at a rural Knox County Country School, then attended and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1954. After graduation, he helped out for one year on the family farm. Lyle then began classes at UNL in the fall of 1955. To support himself, he began milking cows at the University dairy barn. He would get up at 3 a.m. to milk cows every day and be at class by 8 a.m. This went on for several years. He graduated from the UNL in May 1959, receiving his bachelor’s degree. He later received his master’s degree from Colorado State University. Lyle Vawser and the former Marlene Donelson were married June 14, 1959, at the United Methodist Church, Fullerton. Lyle lived in Bloomfield, Fullerton, Stanton, and Hartington. Lyle not only farmed, but was also the County Extension Agent with UNL in Nance, Stanton, and Cedar counties in Nebraska.

During retirement, Lyle enjoyed raising Appaloosa horses, working on his farm, researching family genealogy and traveling to visit family. Lyle was very active in his church, serving in various capacities throughout many years. He was passionate about soil conservation and protecting natural resources.

Survivors include wife of 64 years, Marlene Vawser, Norfolk; children, Lynette Mussack, Lincoln; Karla (Dan) Luebbert, St. Louis, Mo.; and Matt (Wendy) Vawser, Kearney; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie (Norm) Winder, Norfolk, and Marilyn (Karl) Harig, Cloudcroft, N.M.; sister-in-law, Rose Vawser, Bloomfield.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Alice Vawser; sisters, Ruth Vawser and Teddy Mae (Vern) Larson; brothers, Leland Vawser and Lowell Vawser; and sister-in-law, LaRae Vawser.
