HARTINGTON — Dan Gildersleeve, 73, Hartington, died Jan. 28, 2023, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.
Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers will be Jesse Gildersleeve, Kevin Gildersleeve, Jake Brogna, Ted Gildersleeve, Tyler Peitz and Troy Gildersleeve.
Visitation will be Friday, at church, from 5-7 p.m., with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Daniel Dean was born July 4, 1949, in Yankton, S.D., to Ted R. and Agnes (Giddings) Gildersleeve. He graduated from Hartington High School in 1967. Dan then graduated from the Stewart School of Cosmetology. Dan worked with A.D.M. (Archer Daniels Midland), for over 40 years, retiring as plant superintendent in 2011. Dan married Sharon Kathleen Miller April 9, 1968, in Coleridge.
Dan was a member of the Boys Scouts of America throughout his schooling with his father and continued as a Scout leader with his own son, Troy, for many years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, having earned 4th Degree level.
Dan and Sharon enjoyed camping, musical festivals, Pow Wow’s, and cooking for others. Dan was born on the 4th of July and was a very patriotic American through and through.
Dan is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Sharon; son, Troy Gildersleeve, and girlfriend, Missy Andersen, Almelund, Minn.; daughter, Angie (Tyler) Peitz, Hartington; family member, Sayuri Gildersleeve, Laurel; five grandchildren, Jesse Gildersleeve, and girlfriend, Marah Plautz, Madison, Wis.; Kevin, and wife, Taylor Gildersleeve, Cambridge, Minn.; Jacob Brogna, and girlfriend, Autumn Sandoval, Hartington; Teddy Gildersleeve, Almelund, Minn.; Mia and husband, Cole Schaefer, Hartington; five great grandchildren Brooklynn and Hudson Gildersleeve of Cambridge, Minn., Noah Schaefer of Hartington, Isabella Schaefer of Sioux Falls, SD, Ariella Brogna, Hartington; brother, Jim (Marge) Gildersleeve, Bemidji, Minn.; brother-in-law, Ray Hegert, Lincoln; sisters, Denise (Butch) McFarland, Bloomfield, and Vicki (Dave) Golda, Gretna.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Agnes Gildersleeve, and sister, Marilyn Hegert.
