Charles was born Sept. 28, 1952, in Yankton, S.D., to Vincent and Evelyn (Suing) Bruning. He grew up on a farm east of Hartington and attended Mayflower Country School. Chuck graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1970. After graduation, he farmed with his father for several years until he started working for Hartington Concrete, and then drove truck for Boeckman Ag. Chuck began working for the Cedar County road department in 2005 and worked until 2016 when health issues forced him to retire. Chuck had been a resident of Arbor Care Center for the last three years, where he received excellent care.
When Chuck was younger, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing with his nieces and nephews. He loved going on a drive in the country or on a walk around town.
Chuck loved his family, especially his daughter, Megan, who was his pride and joy.
Chuck is survived by his daughter, Megan (Zach) Hingst, Hartington; two sisters, Carol Wortman, Naples, Fla., and Dorothy (Robert) Haag, Mead; three sisters-in-law, Carol Bruning, Hartington; Nancy Bruning, Wisner; and Marlyce Bruning, Coleridge; and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Darrell, Don, Gerald “Jerry” and one in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Dave Wortmann.
