Robert died July 15, 2023, at Brookdale Nohl Ranch Assisted Living, Anaheim Hills, Calif.
Bob was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Randolph, to Robert and Marie (Weber) Miller. After graduating from St. Frances High School, Randolph, in 1953, Bob attended The Nebraska State Teachers College, Wayne, now Wayne State College, graduating in 1957.
After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and started teaching elementary school. He taught for six years at Nestle Avenue Elementary in Tarzana and one year at Hart Street Elementary in Canoga Park. Bob then transitioned to teaching high school math and working in the counseling office at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. In 1989, he was a finalist of the Jaime Escalante Mathematics Teacher Award for excellence in teaching. Following his retirement from Belmont in 1998, Bob stayed active in the education system substitute teaching at local middle schools for the next 15 years.
Despite moving to Los Angeles, he maintained his connection to Randolph through regular visits, reading the Randolph Times, and business ventures, which include the Miller Apartments, a farm outside of town, and the former Randolph Feed and Grain elevator (with Allen Burbach). Bob’s hobbies included reading the Los Angeles Times every day and watching the stock market.
Bob’s passion was education and he spent many hours volunteering his time to counseling his students with their personal and educational needs. He helped hundreds of students to go to college when they may not have considered that path before Bob’s encouragement.
To support even more students in their pursuit of a college degree, Bob established the Bob and Marie Miller Scholarship (in honor of his parents) at Wayne State College to provide financial assistance to new freshmen from Nebraska. The scholarship was founded in 2001 and is awarded to two students per year, resulting in over 40 students receiving a scholarship for over $94,000 distributed.
Bob is survived by his son Robert (Ann) of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; daughters, Mary (Lee) of Placitas, N.M.; Patricia (Andrew) of Parkville, Mo.; sister Barbara (Jerry) of Omaha; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five nieces/nephews, and many friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marie, and numerous aunts and uncles.
