RANDOLPH — Funeral services for Patty (Broer) Brodersen, 88, Randolph, will be 11 a.m., Aug. 1, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph.

PMA Dwight Brummels will officiate, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, McLean, following the luncheon.

The service will be live streamed on the Home for Funerals website.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are with Home for Funerals, Randolph.

Patricia Ann Broer was born Feb. 25, 1936, on a farm in west Randolph, to Henry and Frances (Thomas) Broer. She and her brother and sisters grew up farming and gardening southwest of Randolph. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1953, and getting together with her classmates was always a highlight. Patty was a lifelong member of St John’s Lutheran Church, serving in various groups and capacities, but her favorite was always the choir.

Patty loved and dated Don Brodersen from early grade school, when he moved on to the neighboring farm. Don and Patty married Oct. 30, 1953, and she moved an entire mile to begin their married life on the farm. They welcomed children, Carmen, Marc, Ruth, Inga and Martha. They spent many weekend nights at the Randolph Ballroom. She and Don loved to dance and were great fun to watch. They also enjoyed card club, square dancing, any and all family, friend and neighborhood gatherings, and numerous craft projects.

Taking care of kids, canning, sewing and other farm wife jobs such as “going for parts,” butchering chickens, chopping weeds, filled her days and nights for many years. Following kids’ and later grandkids’ activities included plays, concerts, football, basketball, track, baseball and many things in between. In the 1980s, she took on and conquered the licensing process becoming a Farm Bureau Insurance agent in the Pierce office. Many parts of that career change were out of her comfort zone, but she enjoyed it none the less.

Don and Patty were able to travel to Colorado, Washington, California, Mexico, Greece, and later on, Patty traveled to France. As her vision decreased, Patty lived at Colonial Manor Assisted Living and most recently, Kinship Pointe in Wayne. She remained very much a country girl at heart and often stated she “loved her little corner of the world.”

Patty is survived by her children, Carmen (Rod) Patent, Randolph; Marc Brodersen, Hartington; Ruth (Eric) Smith, Wayne; and Martha (Rick) Kennebeck, Yutan; son-in-law, Rick Lindholm, Omaha; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Vicki (H) Wilken, Minneapolis, Minn.; in-laws, Cece (Joe) Olsrud, Luverne, Minn.; Robin Savage, Hickman; Norma Jean Thelen, Coleridge; and JoAnn McBain, Billings, Mont.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patty was preceded in death by Don, in 1987; parents, Henry and Frances Broer; in-laws, Adolph and Martha Brodersen; brother, Larry Broer; sisters, Barb (Dean) Stingley and Nancy Savage; daughter, Inga Lindholm; grandson, Matthew Brodersen; granddaughter, Greta Smith; in-laws, George Thelen, Roger McBain and Darrel Brodersen.
