Posted in:

WYNOT — The Wynot Expos broke a four-game losing streak by taking a game from Crofton here June 16, 2-1.

As usual, the two teams put on quite a show and the pitcher’s duel took 12 innings before the outcome was decided.

In fact, neither team scored until the 12th frame, where by comparison, there was a scoring explosion.

The Bluejays came to bat in the top of the 12th where Devin Hegge drew a walk with one out.

Hegge was replaced by a pinch-runner, Roy Knapp, who was sacrificed to second by Justin Potts with a bunt to Expos pitcher, Jackson Sudbeck.

James Kaiser stepped to the plate and ripped a triple down the right field line scoring Knapp and giving the Bluejays a 1-0 lead.

Sudbeck then enticed a fly ball out to end the Crofton half of the inning.

The expos came to bat, sending Peyton Wieseler to the plate who worked a walk from Bluejays’ pitcher, Zach Hegge.

Wieseler was replaced by Dain Whitmire on the base paths.

Sudbeck helped his own cause with a sharp single into right field which advanced Whitmire to second.

Ryan Heimes came to the plate and the Expos played small ball as Heimes bunted towards first which advanced Whitmire and Sudbeck.

Devon Lammers blasted an 0-1 fastball back into center field which scored both runs and ended the game.

Sudbeck picked up the win for the Expos after taking over for starting pitcher Landon Wieseler, who pitched eight frames allowing three hits, and striking out seven.

Sudbeck pitched the final four innings and allowed two hits and the one Crofton run and struck out two.

Zach Hegge took the hard-luck loss for the Bluejays, working 8.1 innings, allowing just four hits and two runs after coming on in relief of Capp Bengston.
