HARTINGTON — The Hartington Rescue Squad held an organizational meeting on Thursday, June 14, at the Hartington Fire Hall.

John Heitman was elected president and Duane Brummer was elected secretary.

HARTINGTON — Nine state legislators, mostly from Nebraska, took a first-hand look this past weekend at various energy saving innovations being used on cooperating farms of the Small Farm Energy Project.

The tour was requested by Sen. Elroy Hefner of Coleridge and by the Labor and Commerce Committee of the Midwest Conference of the Council of State Governments.

HARTINGTON — Three Cedar County residents appeared before the Board of Commissioners Friday to discuss the upgrading of a minimum maintenance road.

Mrs. George (Jan) Haas, Dean Nordby and Norman Vogel told the board that a road located in Precinct 13 needed to be considered for upgrading. Currently under minimum maintenance, the three said that road is heavily traveled and necessary to some area farmers in caring for their livestock.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council June 13 heard several requests concerning plans for Governors’ Day, which is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Alice Mahood of the Chamber of Commerce public relations committee talked to the council about plans for the event.

WYNOT—A seven-inch down pour forced West Bow Creek out of its banks near here, flooding fields and roads. The East Bow Creek and Bow Creek were also forced out of their banks, but most of the damage came from the West Bow, said Cedar County Commissioner Frederick Pinkelman.

HARTINGTON- A second-generation veterinarian hopes to improve and expand the family practice his dad started here 27 years ago. Ben Schroeder, the son of local veterinarian John Schroeder of Coleridge, has returned to Cedar County to help his father rejuvenate the family business.
