Wynot Expos come up short in a pair of games

WYNOT - The Wynot Expos dropped a couple of games by a total of three runs in South Central South Dakota League action over the past week.

The Expos lost to the Yankton Tappers in Yankton 6-5 on June 9 after a loss to the Menno Mad Frogs, 11-9, in a game played in Wynot on June 6.

The Tappers scored in the opening inning plating two runs. Wynot responded in the top of the third with a run of its own.

The Expos scored the run with two outs as Lee Heimes sigled into right field and stole second base.

Landon Wieseler also singled to right and sent Heimes home to make the score 2-1.

Yankton scored twice again in the bottom of the third but a three-run fourth tied the game for Wynot. Peyton Wieseler walked to open the frame then Jackson Sudbeck rapped a single to right field.

After a ground out, David Schenk hit into a fielder’s choice which scored Wieseler and left Sudbeck on third.

Scott Morrison knocked a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher scoring Sudbeck and moving Schenk to second base.

Nate Wieseler rifled a line drive back up the middle scoring Schenk and knotting the score at 4-4. The Tappers scored a run in the fifth but Wynot answered to tie it up again with a run in the top of the eighth.

Back-to-back singles by Jaelen and Peyton Wieseler with one out put runners on first and second.

Ryan Heimes walked after another out to load the bases and the Tapper pitcher walked Schenk to drive in a run.

The Tappers responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth to regain the lead but the Expos managed just a single in the top of the ninth and Yankton held on for the win.

Wynot was cruising along with a 3-0 lead at the end of the fifth inning in the game with the Mad Frogs before Menno got on the board in the top of the sixth with two runs leaving the Expos clinging to a one-run advantage.

Both teams would score four runs in the seventh but Menno added four more in the eighth to take a 10-7 lead into the final frame.

The Mad Frogs scored the run they needed in the top of the ninth and Wynot would score two in its half of the last inning but fell just short by the 11-9 final.

Jaelen Wieseler was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI’s, Peyton Wieseler was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Lee Heimes was 2-for-5 and scored twice.
