Potts named champion at State Horse show

GRAND ISLAND — A Laurel 4-Her brought home some big hardware from the Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Expo here in July.

Chelsea Potts, 17, Laurel and her mare All About The Genes were the Champions in the Senior Showmanship competition. She is the daughter of Lee and Jackie Potts, Laurel.

There were 239 exhibitors, 351 horses, and 1306 entries.

The Expo is the pinnacle showing experience for members of the 4-H Horse Program. The show includes classes for youth ages 8 -18 along with their animals. Classes for youth in Horsemanship Level one include halter and showmanship along with Judging and Hippology competitions.

Classes included are: Halter and Showmanship at Halter, Western Pleasure and Horsemanship, Trail, Ranch Pleasure and Ranch Riding, English and Western Dressage, English classes included are Hunter Under Saddle and Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Hack. Other classes are Western Riding, Reining, Working Ranch Horse, Pole Bending and Barrel Racing.
