Plans for new city shop are coming together

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The city is getting closer to breaking ground for a new million dollar city shop.

Mayor Mark Becker said Monday a replat and rezoning hearing is scheduled for later this month for land the city owns on the VFW block.

Once approval is granted for those changes, the Council then must approve the change. A bid package can then be put together for contractors, he said.

Becker said he is hopeful that concrete for the foundation and footings can still be poured this year.

Also Monday, the Hartington City Council approved a liquor license for Jason Wintz, who recently purchased the brewing portion of the Big Hair Brewhaus. The license allows Wintz to brew and sell beer as a wholesaler.

The Council also approved a building permit for a new garage and storage shed Marv Grinvold wants to build on property he owns at 110 N. Greenlee Drive.

The Council also agreed to sell a 1995 GMC Tractor Truck it currently uses at the transfer station. The truck will be advertised for sale on an auction basis through Big Iron, Becker said.

The Council also gave its approval for a $32,500 revolving loan for the Cedar County News for a building improvement project.
