NENCAP announces federal funds for Northeast Nebraska

Posted in:

PENDER – The Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership recently announced the Northeast Nebraska Region has been awarded federal funds.

This 2024 federal funding was made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, which was established in 1983. The Northeast Nebraska Region has been chosen to receive $13,180 under Phase 41 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs. The selection was made by a national board that is chaired by FEMA and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross; Catholic Charities USA; The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish Federations of North America; The Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide.

A local board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas.

This local board will determine how the funds awarded to the Northeast Nebraska Region are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies. The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.
