Hartington Pony team wins three in League action

Posted in:

HARTINGTON - The Hartington Pony League team won three games the past week in Quad County Baseball League play with a 9-4 win over Plainview here on June 6, a 20-6 win over the Randolph Cardinals on June 5 in Randolph and a 28-2 win over the Summerland Bobcats on June 4 on the road.

Micah Cattau pitched a no-hitter in five innings of work against Plainview to get the win. Cattau struck out 11 and walked three.

The Hartington offense provided all of the runs Cattau would need in the first inning when he smacked a line drive single up the middle to chase home two runs after Cooper Hochstein led off with a walk and Hudson Whitmire got aboard on an error.

Plainview responded with three runs in the second frame on a hit batter, three walks and an error by Hartington.

Cattau doubled in the bottom of the third inning to send Dawson Dresden, and move Grady Haberer to third.

Rylan Fischer stepped to the plate and sent a line drive into center field to score Haberer and Cattau and Hartington was back in the lead 5-3.

Plainview added its last run of the contest in the fourth on a hit batter, an error and a passed ball to make it 5-4.

After Hartington failed to score in the fourth, it manufactured three runs in the fifth to reach the final score.

Whitmire singled into left field then Haberer walked.

Both runners stole a base to advance to second and third and Whitmire scored on a wild pitch. Fischer doubled to left field to score Haberer then Hudson Dendinger singled to right to send Fischer scampering home and Dendinger scored on a ground ball out to the pitcher to end scoring in the game.

Hartington jumped on the Randolph Cardinals with 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back on the way to the 20-6 final score.

Cooper Hochstein scored twice in the frame as did Grady Haberer. Cattau, Fischer, Hudson Dendinger, Keaton Keiser, Dresden and Blake Bensen scored once in the first.

Fischer, who earned the win on the mound, kept the Cardinals scoreless in the first before giving way to Bensen.

Neither team scored in the second and Hartington was back at it in the third, plating six runs then added three in the fourth and the game was stopped by a run-rule.

Fischer and Cattau both finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, Cattau scored three times including a home run and Fischer scored twice and hammered a double. Teyton Dendinger was 2-for-3 and drove in two and Dresden was 2-for-2 diving in one run and scoring once.

To say Hartington jumped on Summerland in the first would be a huge understatement. Hartington scored 23 runs in the first, added a run in the second and polished the evening off with four runs in the fourth.

Hochstein had a productive game at the plate going 4-for-5 scoring four times and driving in three runs.

Mark Heimes scored twice and drove in two and Hudson Dendinger was 3-for-3, scored three times and drove in four.

Hartington is set to play Neligh in league action on June 13 and is headed for tournament play over the weekend in South Dakota.
