WAYNE — Karen Ann “Cookie” Ulrich, 79, Wayne, formerly of Wakefield, died May 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, at Wayne Countryview Care..

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., May 24, at Grace Lutheran Church, Wayne.

Visitation was Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Wayne.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne.

Karen Ann “Cookie” Ulrich was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Coleridge, to Ralph and Berniece (Dennis) Sherer. Growing up on the farm, she was a mother figure to her younger siblings. Cookie was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayne. She attended school at Cedar Center near Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1961. She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Wayne, until her marriage. Cookie married Wayne Ulrich Feb. 23, 1963, at First Presbyterian Church, Wayne. In January 1964, their first daughter, Tammy, was born, and in June 1965, their second daughter, Pam, was born.

Cookie was employed at Milton G. Waldbaum Company for nine years; Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Norfolk and Sioux City, for 18 years; Waldbaums’s office four years; and First National Bank of Omaha until retirement.

Cookie enjoyed decorating their home, along with tea pot, doll and teddy bear collections. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their activities were her greatest treasures.

Cookie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne; daughters, Tammy (Brian) Foote and Pam (Harley) Henderson, all of Wayne; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Tiffany) Foote, Brandon (Staci) Foote, Cory Foote, Cody (Steph) Henderson, Jessie (Mason) McCain, and Brady Henderson; seven great-grandchildren, Easton and Alex Foote, Eli, Andrew, Cameron and Beckett Foote; and Miles McCain; six siblings, Larry (Karen) Sherer, Wakefield; Junior (Marilyn) Sherer, South Sioux City; Ed Sherer, Wakefield; Jan (Terry) Davis, Oshkosh; Jo (Ray) Junck, Wayne; and Bev (Dick) Soden, Wayne; one sister-in-law, Carol Ulrich, Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; one aunt, Lenora Dennis, Osmond; 23 nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

Cookie was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Harlan and Mildred Ulrich; and brother-in-law, Dean Ulrich.

Memorials may be directed to the Ulrich Family for later designation.
