RANDOLPH – In what many may consider a bit of a surprise season for the 2024-25 Randolph Cardinal boys basketball team, some people were paying attention.
A couple of Redbirds were honored by the Omaha World-Herald and some Class D2 coaches by being tabbed all-state honorable mention by the publication last week.
Logan Lienemann and Luke Harder were both selected on the honorable mention list for Class D2.
Randolph closed out the season 10-15, but in the middle of January the Cards were enjoying an 8-5 record after defeating Homer onthe road Jan. 16.
The end of the season always brings stiffer competition, with teams improving and getting into the conference tournaments,Subdistricts and districts, but this group of Cardinals overachieved duringthe entire campaign.
Much of the unforeseen success can be attributed to Lienemann and Harder, and the good news is, they both return next year.
“Logan was outstanding the entire season,” said Coach Cory Simpson. “He is a great shooter and we are looking for big things from him in his senior season next year.”
Harder did a lot of the dirty work inside and found a way to do some scoring along the way.
“Luke was a force on both ends of the court,” Simpson said.“He leads by example and will for sure be a player we lean on nextyear.”
The coach went on to share his encouragement for next winter. “I’m excited to see these two and their teammates work hard this summer,” Simpson said. “We have a ton to work on but the sky is the limit for this talented group coming back.”
