COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Fire Department was called to the Steve Kalin farm Thursday morning where a tractor had caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, but caused an estimated $200 damage to the tractor.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge High School Senior class had their Sneak Day Tuesday when the group went to Omaha by chartered bus.
Twenty one seniors, Russell Pedersen and Franklin Bressler made the trip. Points of interest visited by the group were Boys Town, Joslyn Memorial, Lang Flyers Field and the Municipal Airport. They also attended the IceCapades Tuesday evening.

COLERIDGE— Coming Sale: Saturday, April 29 — Seven-room house belonging to Frederick Hansen, formerly occupied by the late Peter Hansen. Also, a line of household goods is to be sold at auction.

COLERIDGE — Spring-like weather made a belated arrival in this area Sunday and Monday.
The temperature topped the 70-degree mark on Monday. The Mercury dropped Monday evening and both Tuesday and Wednesday were chilly and windy.

COLERIDGE — Top drying weather was prevalent during the past week enabling farmers to begin with preliminary fieldwork.
Most roads began to dry and bad spots began to become passable as grading dried the poorer portions in sheltered areas. Tuesday, however, brought scattered showers in the morning turning into a heavy downpour by late afternoon dropping close to a half-inch of moisture in some areas in the Coleridge region.

COLERIDGE — Dorothy Pfund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pfund of Coleridge, has been chosen to represent Cedar County in the Junior Homemaker Contest sponsored by the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce. Miss Pfund was chosen by a committee from Home Extension Clubs.

COLERIDGE — Construction of the new High School building for District 41-R got into full swing this week as bulldozers and heavy earth moving equipment began the first work in grading and leveling.
Many of the old trees were removed the latter part of the last week and pulled to the back of the grounds. Grading progressed rapidly until heavy rains washed operations out on Tuesday afternoon. April 23, 1970
COLERIDGE — Mrs. Marvin Ropte, official census taker in Precincts 13, 15 and 16 said this week that she found most of the people she contacted to be very considerate and cooperative. She said 85 percent of the forms she collected were already filled out and that only three people out of 310 homes she visited were disagreeable.
During her visits she traveled 600 miles. One thing that proved disturbing however was the vacant farm homes she was supposed to question.
Vacancies in Precinct 13 ran up to 29 percent; in Precinct 15 there were 21 percent vacant and in Precinct 16 the total was 24 percent vacant.

COLERIDGE — The week beginning April 27 has been designated as Zip Code Week. Postmaster Bruce Bohlken urges all citizens of the Coleridge community to join in observation of this event by fully using their Zip Codes in both the mailing and return addresses for all mail and encouraging their friends and associates to do likewise.
