LCC track competes in Knox County meet

CREIGHTON — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge track teams competed in the Knox County Track and Field Meet April 7 with the Lady Bears taking fourth and the Bears placing sixth.

Niobrara/Verdigre won the girls’ division of the meet with 106 points with Wausa second with 101. Bloomfield was third with 91 followed by the Lady Bears with 77.

Crofton won the boys’ title with 105 points, Creighton was runner-up with 87, Boyd County was third with 86. The Bears posted 48 points on the day.

The Lady Bears earned three gold medals on the day. Tali Erwin cleared the high jump bar at 5-feet-0-inches to win that event and threw in a couple of fifth-place finishes in the 100 and 300 hurdles to complete a successful day.

The Lady Bear 1,600 relay squad of Carlie Kvols, Hattie Mc-Corkindale, Tyler Recob and Kate Tasler made it around the track four times in 4-minutes and 33.15 seconds to break the tape as did the quartet of Kate Tasler, Addy Hoeppner, Recob and Justice Olson who circled the oval eight times in 11:17.16 in the 3,200 relay.

The 400 relay team of McCorkindale, Taelynn Settje, Grace Galvin and Erwin for the baton around the track once in 54.61 seconds which put them in fourth.

Settje also placed third in the long jump, fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 100 to bring home four medals on her day.

Tasler was second in 800, Faith Galvin was second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600, Olson also placed sixth in the 1,600.

Laney Folkers was third in the triple jump with a best of 3005 and Recob was sixth in the 400.

Drey Puppe had a day for the Bears bringing home three gold medals from the meet.

Puppe swept the hurdles. using a time of 14,32 seconds to win the 110 high hurdles by over two seconds then used a time of 42.27 seconds to win the 300 hurdles, also by over two seconds.

He also won the high jump with a leap of 5-10. The 3,200 relay team of Shane Langford, Dayton Korth, Sebastian Van Drongelen and Carter Korth grabbed third-place in that race and Langford placed fifth in the 800.

Jaylen Carpenter used a heave of 41-10 in the shot to claim third.

Both teams were slated to run in the Wayne Invitational on April 15 before heading to Homer for its invitational on April 17.
